Sanyo VPC-HD2000 Xacti 8MP High Definition 1080P (Gold) [Camera] Reviews
13 of 17 people found the following review helpful Loses 10 seconds of video every 22 minutes, December 11, 2009 By This review is from: Sanyo VPC-HD2000 Xacti 8MP High Definition 1080P (Gold) [Camera] (Electronics) As others have pointed out, the Sanyo VPC-HD2000 (and VPC-FH1) will lose about 10 seconds of video every 22 minutes (or so) when the file size hits the 4Gb limit for the FAT filesystem. At this point, the camera opens a new file and loses about 10 seconds of video in the process.
Other camcorders (Canon, Sony, etc.) don't seem to exhibit this issue. One way manufacturers work around the issue is to buffer the video input during the switch over so that no frames are lost. I'm assuming that, given the price, Sanyo had to cut corners here.
I like to set up my camcorder on a tripod and just let it run for the length of an event. If I'm filming a recital, for example, I don't want random 10 second chunks missing. For me, this is a deal breaker.
Not Perfect but Picture is Worth the Price, October 20, 2011 This review is from: Sanyo VPC-HD2000 Xacti 8MP High Definition 1080P (Gold) [Camera] (Electronics) The Sanyo VPC-HD2000 is not a perfect camera, however for the price it is difficult to compete with. The HD recording modes offer great quality of video recording. Plus the camera has many manual features that are very hard to find with a camera in this price range.
The previous reviewer mentions the 4GB file limit as a hindrance because every 22min you would lose 10 seconds of video. I agree that this is inconvenient at times however there is a way to record longer than 22 min. The video camera has several recording options. At the highest setting with maximum bit rate (24Mbps) the camera can only record 22 min because it reaches 4GB at 22min. But if you set the camera at at a lower bit rate you can record well over 22 min. 40min 60min etc. And you still get HD footage. I frequently record at a lower bitrate because it is easier to edit with on a computer and quality is still amazing. Just to note, unless you have a computer with a fast processor the high bitrate footage... Read more
