I bought the HDR-TD10 to replace both these camera's and I'm happy to say it does that, and more.
First, the body of the camera feels very solid, with just enough weight to feel stable, but not heavy enough to be fatiguing after an hour of shooting. There is a 'leather' like wrap on the hand side, that gives the camera a nice look, but also offers some traction when you grip the camera.
The camera powers on quickly and has a big and bright LCD Screen. I find the menu system is a bit small and the touch screen is really sensitive, so I often choose the wrong menu functions by accident. This is something that will probably improve with time on the camera. The camera's dual lenses are protected by an auto lens cap, which is a nice feature.

Now, there are some tricks to 3D and new techniques to compose interesting footage. We took the camera down to Ecuador / Galapagos Islands where there is lots of interesting things to film: Huge volcanos, lots of cliffs / back-country roads, wildlife, etc. When we came back, I needed to produce a rough-cut of the 2D footage to prepare for the 3D edits (editing is the challenge big time with these cameras). The 2D footage was also amazing. Rich colors, great night / low light video, very stable video capture, and 5.1 sound. This camera has INCREDIBLE sound and may even be a better feature than the 3D. Lastly, this camera gets a ton of attention because it's obviously not a "normal" camcorder.
